CFR Small and Medium-sized Banks Review

On February 14, 2025, AFIA provided a submission to CFR Review into Small and Medium-sized Banks which advocates for a financial system that supports diverse business models, encourages innovation, and ensures that regulation does not create barriers of entry for new competitors in the finance industry.

AFIA has called for improving access to funding, a strengthening of the AOFM, updated ASIC guidance on RLOs, proportionate lending rules, an improved Restricted ADI license pathway and better regulatory engagement with industry.

The submission also focused on the role of the Australian Office of Financial Management (AOFM) and its delivery of crucial securitisation funding to lenders to support small business lending and stability during the COVID downturn.

Furthermore, the submission considers ways for greater consultation and engagement between regulators and financial services industry bodies.
