AFIA Welcomes the Release of the Government’s Sustainable Finance Roadmap

19 June 2024

AFIA has welcomed the release of the Federal Government’s Sustainable Finance Roadmap, which will help investors, companies and the Australian community capitalise on and make the most of the significant opportunities arising from the global net zero transition and economic transformation.

“We welcome the Treasurer’s release of the Roadmap, which is a major milestone towards mobilising and unlocking the private capital needed to meet our targets and net zero ambitions as well as maximise the economic opportunities,” AFIA CEO Diane Tate said.

“This Roadmap underscores the importance of creating a supportive environment to help companies, investors and consumers to confidently make informed decisions, effectively managing climate and sustainability risks across our economy and communities, identifying the most efficient financing opportunities for the transition to net zero, and modernising our financial markets.”

“Competition, innovation, proportionate regulation, and sustainability are all key priorities for AFIA. We support a timely, efficient and sustainable transition to net-zero through green finance and ESG initiatives.”

“The finance industry plays a critical role in supporting consumers and businesses tackling climate and sustainability risks and we welcome the Roadmap’s clarity on the Government’s next steps.”

AFIA previously responded to the Government’s Sustainable Finance Strategy and earlier this year, responded to Treasury’s consultation on the exposure draft legislation and for mandatory climate-related financial disclosures.

“We will continue to work closely with the Government, our members and other stakeholders on the next steps for sustainable finance, to ensure investment and economic opportunities of the net zero transformation are maximised.”
